Google to Invest Another $1 Billion in Anthropic
Neuralink Trials, SpaceX Launches, Anthropic Investments, and More

Neuralink
Neuralink and the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine have been chosen to conduct clinical trials of a brain-computer interface device. In partnership with The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, they are studying a device that enables people with paralysis to control external devices through thought. The Neuralink PRIME Study is evaluating the safety and functionality of the wireless brain-computer interface N1 Implant, which connects to the brain via ultrathin electrode threads implanted by the R1 robot.
SpaceX
On January 27, SpaceX launched its latest batch of satellites into low-Earth orbit. The Falcon 9 rocket deployed 21 Starlink satellites, including 13 with Direct to Cell capabilities. Immediately after liftoff, the rocket’s first stage successfully landed on SpaceX’s “A Shortfall of Gravitas” droneship in the Atlantic Ocean. Stage separation occurred as planned.
Anthropic
Google plans to invest an additional $1 billion in Anthropic, which has already received $2 billion and cloud computing services from the tech giant. Amazon has invested around $8 billion, becoming Anthropic’s primary cloud and training partner. The AI company, best known for its Claude family of models, is currently raising another $2 billion in a funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, valuing the company at $60 billion.
Groq
DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Llama-70b is an improved version of the Llama 3.3 70B model, trained on samples from DeepSeek-R1, and recently made available on GroqCloud. The model is currently in preview mode, recommended for evaluation only. Advancements in such models open up vast possibilities but require enormous computing resources, prompting Groq to expand capacity daily to meet increasing demand.
