Bolt launches e-scooter service in Kazakhstan
Global expansion into Central Asia

Estonian tech unicorn Bolt has launched its first service in Central Asia, introducing e-scooter rentals in Almaty. The move highlights the city’s growing role as a hub for innovative transport solutions and demonstrates international interest in Kazakhstan’s urban mobility market.
Over 1,000 Bolt 2 e-scooters are now available on Almaty’s streets. Each scooter is equipped with GPS-based speed limits, automatically slowing down in high-density pedestrian areas. To enhance safety, users must complete a cognitive test in the app, reducing the risk of riding under the influence.
The Almaty launch is a strategic pilot for Bolt. Kazakhstan is positioned as an entry point into Central Asia, where demand for alternative urban mobility is accelerating. If successful, Bolt plans to expand to other Kazakh cities, further shaping the region’s transport landscape.
Bolt’s entry into Kazakhstan not only adds a convenient transportation option but also sets a new standard for safety, technology, and sustainable mobility in the region.
