$50M for Animoca Brands, Klarna and Walmart, new Starlink factory

Anthropic

The WSJ confirmed that the company Anthropic will receive $2 billion in investments from Google. According to the publication, $500 million has already been invested, with the remaining $1.5 billion to be provided later. The WSJ did not report the new valuation for Anthropic: previously, the media wrote about $20-30 billion. This is 4–5 times higher than the valuation at the round earlier this year, in which our fund participated.

Animoca Brands

Animoca Brands has raised $50 million in investments from the NEOM fund and has become a strategic partner of the company of the same name. NEOM is a Saudi Arabian project to create a business hub in the country's north. Animoca Brands will be involved in developing Web-3 technologies within the project. Half of the investment is provided in the form of convertible notes at a conversion cap price of 4.5 AUD per share. The other half will be invested in purchasing Animoca Brands shares on the secondary market.

Klarna

The company has partnered with Walmart Canada — the second-largest online retailer by sales in Canada. Walmart customers will be able to use Klarna's interest-free installment payment option on the website and in the app. Meanwhile, Klarna maintains a leading position in the Buy Now Pay Later provider rankings by the number of active users and downloads.

Kraken

The cryptocurrency exchange has hired a new managing director for the UK region, aligning with plans to scale up in the country. The new team member is Bivu Das, who has experience working at Starling, Barclays, and Deloitte. Kraken has been actively expanding in Europe lately: the company has obtained licenses in Ireland and Spain and acquired a Dutch cryptocurrency exchange.

SpaceX

  • The company won a $1.2 billion contract from the US Space Force, which stipulates that SpaceX will provide 10 launches of the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets over the next three years.
  • A new Starlink factory has opened in Texas. The company reports that it “will help expand production of Starlink kits exponentially.”
  • The next SpaceX mission to the ISS is scheduled for November 7. The Dragon spacecraft will deliver equipment, research materials, and supplies to the station.
