Analytics on the global venture capital market for 3Q of 2022

Investments in startups are still booming

$329 billion has been invested by venture investors in startups since the beginning of the year. CB Insights has published analytics on the global venture capital market for 3Q2022. The report includes data on new unicorns, booming industries, market conditions, and more.

Here are the highlights –

🦄 In Q3 2022, 25 new unicorn companies appeared worldwide; their total number reached 1192.

In comparison, 21 new companies from Europe joined the Unicorn Board in the second quarter of 2022, bringing the continent's total to 187 companies.

  • Over the past 3 months, startup funding has slowed down due to the ongoing downturn in the markets. From July to September, private companies around the world raised $74.5 billion, a third less than last quarter.
  • The number of QoQ deals decreased not so significantly: by 10%. At the same time, it is expected that 35.1 thousand transactions will be registered by the end of the year, slightly less than last year's record (35.8 thousand).
  • In total, since the beginning of the year, the volume of venture investments amounted to $329 billion, and by the end of the year, according to forecasts, it will reach $439 billion. This is less than last year ($630 billion) but more than in 2020 ($298 billion), 2019- m ($258 billion), and 2018 ($292 billion).
  • The number of IPOs and SPACs increased in Q3, breaking the downward trend since the beginning of this year. At the same time, the top 10 most considerable placements were made by Chinese companies.
  • The leaders in financing were startups from the USA (49% of all investments), Asia (27%), and Europe (20%). Canada, Australia, Africa, and Latin America received about 5% of the funding.
  • Fintech is still the #1 industry for VCs, with fintech startups accounting for 17% of total capital raised.
